Medicaid and Other Insurance

Traditional Medicaid, also called fee-for-service (FFS), provides full health care coverage to individuals with low income. This includes member who are:

  • Over age 65 or disabled
  • Eligible for home- and community-based services
  • Eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid
  • In nursing homes, intermediate care facilities for the intellectually disabled, and state operated facilities

Hoosier Care Connect covers a variety of individuals who are not eligible for Medicare, including:

  • Aged individuals
  • Blind individuals
  • Disabled individuals
  • Individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Individuals enrolled through M.E.D. Works
  • Some foster care children

The Healthy Indiana Plan is a health-insurance program for qualified adults. The plan is offered by the State of Indiana. It pays for medical costs for members and could even provide vision and dental coverage. It also rewards members for taking better care of their health. The plan covers Hoosiers ages 19 to 64 who meet specific income levels. See below if your 2023 income qualifies.

  • Individuals with annual incomes up to $20,121 may qualify.
  • Couples with annual incomes up to $27,218 may qualify.
  • A family of four with an annual income of $41,400 may qualify.

The Healthy Indiana Plan uses a proven, consumer-driven approach that was pioneered in Indiana. The program continues to build upon the framework and successes of the original Healthy Indiana Plan that started in 2008.

Hoosier Healthwise is a health care program for children up to age 19 and pregnant individuals. The program covers medical care such as doctor visits, prescription medicine, mental health care, dental care, hospitalizations, and surgeries at little or no cost to the member or the member's family.

The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) falls under the Hoosier Healthwise program. CHIP is for children up to age 19 whose families have slightly higher incomes. In CHIP, members are required to pay a low monthly premium for coverage as well as copays for certain services.

Hoosier Healthwise has two benefit packages:

  • Package A - This is a full-service plan for children and pregnant individuals. Members do not have any cost-sharing obligations.
  • Package C - This is a full-service plan for children enrolled in CHIP. There is a small monthly premium payment and co-pay for some services based on family income.
